Wow….what has happened to the last 8 months! One minute you’re writing a book review and the next you haven’t posted anything ALL summer!
My absence from writing has been for many reasons and thankfully they are all really good and happy ones. After a whirlwind of general life this year, I’m very ready to snuggle up under a comfy blanket and reflect on how much has changed.

To caveat, I’m not talking about what women want from their jobs, from their bodies or from their overall self progression…maybe next time. This post is about what women want from men specifically in this day and age.
So who remembers the film? Handsome Mel Gibson fighting for the affection of gorgeous Helen Hunt, played out to the perfect soundtrack of Frank Sinatra. I loved ‘What Women Want’ when it came out. Mel’s temporary ‘superpower’ was that he could read women’s minds, he went from being perceived as an overbearing macho sleaze, to a sweet, sensitive heart-throb, with just the right level of seductive prowess. He was the bad boy you couldn’t help falling for in the end….exactly the same way Helen Hunt does in the movie.
But what does the 2018 woman REALLY want in a man, and is she being totally honest about it?

Friends, they make the world spin around don’t they? Without them we’d be bored, lonely and serious deprived of conversation.
One of absolute fav human-beans is my ex flat-mate and London soul mate – Sinead! (The only person I’m allowed to spoon except my boyfriend).
Me and Sinead have that ‘twin thing’, we’d don’t always agree but we get each other in a way I’ve not really experienced before. She’s the cheese to my pickle.
Not only that but she’s a very talented Charity PR Manager who made the jump into a totally new field in order to follow her dreams to the ‘perfect job’ – but does that really exist? Sinead is here to tell you more…

For me and I expect for most people with UC, each morning brings a series of firsts and the nervousness that comes with them.
Let me explain:
- The first poo or loo visit – Will it hurt? Will there be blood?
- The first few hours of the morning – Will there be cramps? Or bloating? Or urgency?
- The first meals of the day – Will there be cramps? Pain or sickness and anxiety?
Not the ‘leap out of bed and sing to the birds through the window’ style of morning which I’m sure we’d all love, but none the less – a day without any of those signals is as good as any.

“I can’t seem to go ONE DAY without thinking something bad about myself. I catch my reflection in the mirror and all I see is oily skin, spots or crows feet. I get changed at the gym and catch my back fat in the mirror and it just makes me want to cry…I can’t seem to stop body-shaming myself and making myself feel crap.”
It would be easy to tell you to learn to ‘love yourself’ (very wanky and annoying) and to love all the nooks and crannies of your body, to be confident with it, but that would make me a HUGE hypocrite. If we could just flip the switch and do that…would we not have done it already? Looking down at your naked self and thinking DAMN is easier said than done….for EVERYONE!

I’m not ashamed to be a huge Harry Potter fan, I bought the whole thing, hook line and sinker. Perhaps because I like the idea of there being more to life than meets the muggle-eye; a layer of existence buzzing and bubbling under the surface, just as it does in Diagon Alley. Who wouldn’t want to believe in that? Who wouldn’t want to believe in magic?
